A couple of simple crafts to accompany teaching about creation –
We made a collage of people surrounding a world map when we did the story of God making people from Genesis 1. The paper plate globe is a different version of the same idea – this time stickers are used to decorate the paper plate rim.
The pictures of people were downloaded and printed but you could use pictures from magazines and catalogues.

Autumn is a very colourful time of year. These crafts celebrate the bright reds, oranges and yellows. If you have a toddler then give them a selection of colours but limit them to autumnal shades. You can teach the names of the colours as you make the different crafts.
Idea One – making a wreath that celebrates autumn. These are just ideas to get you started. You may want to add tissue paper, wool, real leaves … at the end of this post is a free Pdf file of a blank wreath shape. This can be printed onto A4 card. Older children will be able to cut it out themselves. It would be a good idea to decorate first and then cut out.
To make an autumn wreath you will need a cut out wreath shape (use card), coloured paper, paper punch, paint ( I used acrylic), paint brushes, skeleton leaves ( from docrafts papermania), glue, hole punch, wool or thread.
Older children can use a paper punch to make the leaf shapes and then use the remaining paper as a stencil. On the wreath stencil leaves with autumn colours using the acrylic paint (this is not easy to wash out of clothes so you will need to provide aprons or use thick washable poster paint. Watery paint won’t work so well).
When the paint is dry add leaf shapes and finally add the skeleton leaves.
Punch a hole in the top of the wreath and add wool or thread.
If younger children are making these prepare the materials ahead of time and help with the stenciling. You may secure the stencils with some masking tape so they don’t move around and smudge.
Idea two
Falling leaves collage pictures
Again use a paper punch to make leaves and use the left over paper as a stencil. Start with stencilling, leave to dry completely and then add leaves.
Another twist on this idea is to use a large leaf shape to begin. Add autumn coloured tissue paper, cut out leaves etc to the large leaf. this would be great with younger children in particular.
This is a very easy craft to prepare. Cut out a stocking shape using sugar/construction paper. Leave a space at the top for the child’s name. Make a hole with a hole punch so the stocking can be hung up as a decoration. (This is optional)
The children can decorate the stocking with crayons/felt tips/ sequins/ stickers/ glitter. Apart from the stocking shape this is quite an open ended craft activity. Give the children lots of different materials to choose from but let them decorate the stocking as they wish.
We are all wonderfully made! David writes in Psalm 139, ‘I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made’.
There are lots of different crafts you can do that are all about people. Here’s a couple of ideas..
Use people shapes!
For this craft you need to make or buy people cut outs. (The ones in the picture are bought). Try to use the shapes that are different skin colours if you can. Paper shapes are best – there are some that are foam which aren’t suitable for young children so be careful when buying online. Provide shapes for clothes and crayons or felt tips for added detail. You could also add yarn for hair. Have variety for the children to choose from.
Make a collage of faces – I used photos from magazines (you may recognise some famous faces!). It’s useful to collect free magazines form places like Tesco if you can or ask for donations. It’s much cheaper than printing pictures out at home.
Some song ideas
Head, shoulders, knees and toes
From my head down to my toes God loves me
Open shut them, open shut them, make your hands go clap
I’ve got a body, a very busy body – have a look at the video – it’s a great tune and you could add your own lyrics.
