‘And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us..’
‘The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world’
Yesterday there was no more time for craft but look what I found today! There’s a PDF of this at the bottom of the page. Minimal prep needed!
‘And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God..’
An angel craft – the wings are tissue paper so this can be put in a window and the light will shine through.
‘For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour who is Christ the Lord.’
A lovely song – will always remind me of my own children’s nativity performances 🙂
The angels visit the shepherds paper plate craft
‘And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear.’
A song about the Shepherds
Make some sheep
‘And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.’
A very easy paper plate manger scene to make.
‘to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.’
Something yummy to decorate – this is a shop bought gingerbread cookie smothered in icing and smarties!
‘And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David.’
Bethlehem– a picture to print out and colour
A song – had to include ‘Little donkey’ in se advent posts. Last week we took some school assemblies and the children sang this song. It was like being back in my own primary school 40 years ago!
‘For nothing will be impossible with God’
something to listen to
An angel to make – you need
- ice cream paper cup
- pipe cleaner
- heart shaped wings
- circle face
- pencil/crayon to draw on the face
- shredded tissue paper or wool for hair
‘In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.’
Christmas tree biscuits
This is a very easy recipe called 1-2-3 biscuits from ‘Cakes and Cake Decorating’ by Rosemary Wadey.
1oz/25g caster sugar
3oz/75g plain flour
Cream butter and sugar together and then gradually add the flour. Knead till smooth. I made this in my mixer but it is easily done by hand.
Chill the biscuit dough for at least an hour. If you miss this it will be very difficult to roll out and cut into biscuit shapes.
Once chilled roll out on a floured surface. Cut into shapes. I used a christmas tree shaped cutter. Bake at 150C /300F /Gas 2 for about 25 minutes (less if you have a fan oven. Check often anyway). They should be lightly browned. I have a gas oven that has a mind of it’s own so please don’t take my timings as exact!
Once cooked allow to cool and then decorate using icing (icing sugar and water mixed- add water little by little). I added green colouring jell. Decorate any way you like. Eat!
