Learning to pray Bible story idea based on the Lord’s Prayer found in Matthew 6:5-15 and Luke 11:1-13.
Jesus often prayed to his Father in Heaven and he taught his disciples a model prayer to help them to know how to pray. It’s a very short prayer and the story idea for toddlers takes a few aspects of it to help young children understand some simple truths about prayer.

In the story bag you will need some dolls/puppets to represent Jesus’ disciples, an emoji sad face (to represent saying sorry), an emoji happy face (to represent forgiving others), some bread (or picture of some food)
When Jesus walked on the earth he often went to quiet places (everyone say shush) to pray to God. One day his friends asked him, ‘Jesus, please can you teach us how to pray?’ Would Jesus help them? Yes, of course he helped them. This is what he said…
‘When you pray talk to the God who is in heaven. This is the true God, who has all power and is always good. He is the ruler of everything. He can hear you when you talk to him.
Ask God to give you your daily bread. To give you the things you need for today. Enough food to eat and water to drink. God knows what you need.
Ask God to forgive you, say sorry to him.
Ask him to help you to be a forgiving friend to others.
Ask for God’s help to do what you know is right.
God hears you when you talk to him. Don’t be afraid to keep asking for the things you need.’
Just like Jesus’ friends you and I can pray to God.
